I had high hopes for this television drama after hearing so much buzz around it. But to my disappointment Cashmere Mafia, which premiered this past sunday @ 10pm on ABC, deemed the new Sex and the City, failed to meet my expectations.
Mia (Lucy Liu), Juliet (Miranda Otto), Caitlin (Bonnie Somerville) and Zoe (Frances O'Connor) a.k.a Cashmere Mafia are four Manhattan women "bonded by their Ivy League educations and executive success". These women similar to those of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda of Sex in the City solve their personal and professional problems over lunch and... that is literally all there is. I just don't see, based on the way they built the story line on the first episode what more can develop out of this which isn't predictable and boring. Okay maybe i'm being a little over judgemental as it is the first episode, but there are a few fundamentals that leave me convinced that Cashmere Mafia will not have the expected ratings.
... there is no real story line
... the actors for some reason do not bring the characters to life
... there is no build up (a million and one things happened in the first episode which almost left me lost)
... having heard about it being compared to Sex and the City creates really high hard to reach expectations
The only reason why I may consider sitting through another episode would be to watch their borderline fashionable outfits, purses, and shoes!

I've always been a fan of Miranda Otto as an actress, so I was actually quite excited to hear about Cashmere Mafia. Sadly, you're not the only one that has given it a bad review, so I'm thinking I might just take a pass on it.
I agree with what you said. However, I love it for all those opposite reasons - it's about four empowering women with the most fabulous shoes and clothes!!! If the characters had a bit more chemistry I think it would make the show a lot better!
Have you watched Lipstick Jungle?
Is that even on yet, lol. I definitely passed on Cashmere Mafia, but I'm usually not on-board with the hot TV shows while they are hot.
Except Nip/Tuck. Love that.
